Frank Loggie Residence

The Frank Loggie Residence is situated on Water Street in the former Village of Loggieville in Miramichi. This large Victorian-era vernacular home circa 1890's belonged to a partner and brother in the family firm of A & R Loggie Co.

The heritage value of the Frank Loggie Residence resides in its association with Frank (Francis Peabody) Loggie of the family firm A & R Loggie Co.

The Frank Loggie Residence was constructed for Frank Loggie as his primary residence in the late 1890's. The Loggie brothers business grew from humble beginnings in the small village of Black Brook, later Loggieville, to a compliment of stores and plants along the eastern coastline. Their ventures included fish packing plants, blueberry canneries, a fishing fleet, schooners, dredging and general merchant trade. Thus, the family business played an important role in Miramichi's business trade with markets in Europe and the United States. Also of significance is the residual growth of the community as the result of imported highly skilled trade people who settled and worked for the area's main employer. Frank Loggie Residence was located near the local church and F. P. Memorial Hall. Those two buildings were built on land donated by the Loggie family.

The Frank Loggie Residence is also recognized for being a good example of vernacular residential architecture. The hipped roof and symmetrical façade show colonial influences. This Victorian-era vernacular house was near Frank Loggie brother's home to the east, separated by the "Cook House" where meals were made for adjacent homeowners.
