Thyrza Murdock House

Thyrza Murdock House is a modest one-and-a-half storey vernacular home from the mid-19th century. It is located on Water Street in the former Village of Loggieville in the City of Miramichi.

Thyrza Murdock House is designated a Local Historic Place for its association with the early industrial history of the former Village of Loggieville. During the mid 1800's, a water powered sawmill was located upstream on Black Brook. Following Alexander Fraser's construction of a new steam powered sawmill in 1856, two of the mill houses at the former site, including the Thyrza Murdock House, were hauled into the village at that time. This modest one-and-a-half storey vernacular home was relocated to a place on the bank of the Miramichi River. In or about 1968, the building was once more moved, to a site across the road where it now stands. Despite having been moved, it remains an example of early industry housing associated with the Black Brook mill site.
