Dr. James Manning Residence

Dr. James Manning Residence is a two-storey brick Italianate building. It is located on Germain Street within the Trinity Royal Preservation Area of the City of Saint John.

Dr. James A. Manning Residence is designated a Local Historic Place for its architecture and for its association with the Manning family.

Many of the buildings in the residential district of Germain Street were constructed in the latter part of the 19th Century or early 20th Century as all the older buildings were destroyed in the Great Saint John Fire in 1877. Constructed in 1890, Dr. James Manning Residence is designated for being a good example of a two-storey brick Italianate residential building from the rebuilding period in the city following the fire.

Dr. James A. Manning Residence is recognized for its association with the Manning family. A notable dentist for more than forty years, James Manning resided at this Germain Street address from 1900 to 1919. He was involved in politics and in the community. After his death in 1919, the building on Germain Street remained in his estate until 1935.
