Greco Restaurant

Built in 1914, Greco Restaurant is a commercial and residential building located on J. D. Gauthier Boulevard. It is a two-storey wooden structure with a boomtown-style parapet. It is located in the oldest part of the Town of Shippagan.

The heritage value of the Greco Restaurant is based on its historical interest. It was originally built for the Eastern Produce and Fisheries Company, for use as a fish market. It is also known for having housed a succession of businesses, including general stores, electronics stores, a dental clinic, and various restaurants. The upper floor is still used for apartments.

The building also has heritage value because of its architecture. Built in 1914, it is a good example of the boomtown style frequently found in rural communities in New Brunswick at that time. This architectural style is recognizable in the building’s rectangular massing extending front to back, its gently pitched gable roof featuring a projecting parapet on the front façade front, and its smooth façades pierced by rectangular openings.
