Freeman Kimball House

Freeman Kimball House is located on Bas-Cap-Pelé Road. This is a one-and-a-half-storey wood-frame structure of vernacular architecture.

Freeman Kimball House is designated a Local Historic Place for its association with Freeman Kimball and for its architecture.

Freeman Kimball House was built by Mr. Kimball in 1874, the same year he built one of the most modern lobster plants in eastern New Brunswick. This plant was a real industrial complex, consisting of three canneries, a store, warehouses, dormitories, a dining room, a tin shop, and a small factory producing parchment paper for the tin cans. During the years 1875-1885, Freeman Kimball was one of the largest lobster packers in the province. His activities came to a halt right at the beginning of 1890, when he went bankrupt.

Freeman Kimball House is also recognized for its architecture. This one-and-a-half-storey wood-frame building is an example of the vernacular L-shape style of residential architecture that was popular in the late 19th century in New Brunswick.
