Edmund Roussel House

Located on Principale Street in Tracadie-Sheila, the Edmund Roussel House is a two-storey Foursquare residence with a veranda along its entire main façade and an attached two-storey wing.

The Edmund Roussel House is designated a Local Historic Place for its age, its architecture and for its association with former occupants.

Built in circa 1900 by Belonie Roussel, Edmund Roussel’s father, the Edmund Roussel House is one of the oldest in the area. Its age is also shown by the short distance between it and the road, characteristic of early 20th century urban planning. With its hipped roof and two-storey square form, the Edmund Roussel House is one of the most imposing buildings in Sheila region of Tracadie-Sheila. It is an example of Foursquare residential architecture with an attached wing.

The Edmund Roussel is also recognized for its association with its former occupant, Edmund Roussel. Edmund made a significant contribution to the economic development of the Tracadie-Sheila area. He was the owner of a general store, called the “Magasin du corner” by the locals. He also owned another store in the Tracadie area and one in Lamèque.
