105 Guelph Street

105 Guelph Street is a large 2-story neo-classical house situated along the bank of the St. John River in Woodstock. The house is a simple symmetrical shape featuring a bracketed dormer and bay. The house and grounds are included in the local historic place.

105 Guelph Street is designated a Local Historic Place because it exemplifies how Woodstock's transition from pioneer village to industrious town impacted home architecture.

105 Guelph Street was built circa 1838. The house is a simple symmetrical shape featuring a bracketed dormer and bay. From about 1838 into the early 1840s, well-to-do citizens of Woodstock began to build more spacious homes. It provides an excellent early example of this trend because it maintains the graceful neo-classical style of earlier Woodstock homes. However, it was designed on a much larger scale.

The home is also recognized for its two basements. The lowermost basement is completely below ground. The second basement is partially above ground. It has an entrance and windows facing the St. John River. This basement was once used as servants’ quarters and kitchens.
