Convent

Built in 1952 behind the church and a few steps from the elementary school, the two-storey convent of the Daughters of Mary of the Assumption is located at 10 Place de l’Église.

The heritage value of the convent as a local historic place resides in the significance of the Daughters of Mary of the Assumption congregation in the community’s development.

The convent was built in 1952 on the initiative of Father Félix Morneault, then the parish priest of Saint-Quentin, and it served as a residence for the nuns from 1952 to 1972. Arriving in Saint-Quentin in 1924, the Daughters of Mary of the Assumption nuns played a leading role in education in the community. They ran the schools in Saint-Quentin from their arrival until 1965. Their apostolate work continues in several areas, including the liturgical committee, choral singing, and pastoral work in the parish.
