Praga Hotel

Located on Victoria Street and built around 1922, the Praga Hotel is a 3-story wooden commercial building with a restaurant storefront on the ground level fronting Victoria Street in Edmundston.

Praga Hotel is designated a Local Historic Place for being the only one of the city’s old hotels to have retained its original function. Praga Hotel has welcomed travellers and tourists in the Edmundston region for the past 84 years. Although the hotel has had numerous interior and exterior renovations, including an expansion and a new foundation, the core structure of the original building still exists.

The heritage value of Praga Hotel also lies in the fact that its location near the old Canadian Pacific Railway station shows the importance of the railroad in the region’s demographic and economic growth. Between 1940 and 1950, the clientele of the Praga Hotel consisted primarily of people travelling by train.
