Fraser Edmundston Golf Club

Located on Victoria Street in Edmundston and built around 1926 by local people, Fraser Edmundston Golf Club is now a four-star 18-hole facility considered one of the most beautiful golf courses in the Maritimes.

Fraser Edmundston Golf Club is designated a Local Historic Place for its longevity, for its excellent reputation in the Maritime Provinces, for having been host to major tournaments and for its association with one of its former owners.

Rated four stars by the Golf Digest Magazine in 1998, Fraser Edmundston Golf Club is one of the few recreational facilities in the region to enjoy such a good reputation. One of its unique features is the incorporation of a railroad track into its landscaping. Originally a 9-hole course, it was transformed into an 18-hole course in 1931. The first clubhouse was built in 1926 and was later renovated and expanded in 1956. After burning to the ground to 1969, it was rebuilt that same year. Fraser Edmundston Golf Club is also unique as a regional recreational facility for being in operation for more than 80 years.

Fraser Edmundston Golf Club is also recognized for its association with one of its former owners, Fraser Papers, which purchased the Edmundston Golf Club in 1943. It therefore bears witness to this industry’s involvement and its importance in the development of Edmundston and the surrounding area. The impact of the Fraser Edmundston Golf Club in the city of Edmundston’s tourist industry and economic sector is obvious. Fraser Papers, a major employer in the region, has given the opportunity to local residents and countless tourists to practise their favourite summer sport for more than 60 years under its management. In 2005, the course became the property of the City of Edmundston

Lastly, Fraser Edmundston Golf Club is recognized for the major tournaments that it has hosted, including the Canadian Amateur Golf Championship 2002, as well as in 1956 when well-known Canadian golfer Moe Norman took part. Another important event was the Roch Voisine Celebrity Golf Tournament, which brought together national and international personalities such as Roch Voisine, Quebec actor François Pérusse, and former NHL coach Jean Perron.
