DeWolfe House

DeWolfe House is 2-storey Queen Anne residence with a conical tower located on Union Street in St. Stephen.

DeWolfe House is designated a Local Historic Place for its architecture and its association with its former occupants.

DeWolfe House is recognized for being a good example of Queen Anne architecture with asymmetric picturesque eclecticism. It was built in circa 1856 and remained in the DeWolfe family for over seventy-five years.

DeWolfe House is also recognized for its association with its former occupants. The DeWolfe families were engaged in the hardware business and manufacturers of covered carriages, buggy wagons, truck wagons and coaches for the Stage Line. They also built three or four other houses in the immediate area. Walter G. DeWolfe, grandson of Gordon DeWolfe was Mayor of the Town of St. Stephen from 1924 to 1926.

- 2-story asymmetrical massing;

- double hung sash windows;

- oculus windows in gables;

- cut-away bay window;

- pedemented dormer with fanlight window;

- variety of window sizes on west side;

- veranda with Roman arches supported by paired pillars;

- fish scale shingles and clapboard siding;

- gambrel roof.
