1176 Main Street

1176 Main Street is a two story vernacular Boomtown facade building, located in the heart of downtown Smithers, British Columbia. The historic place includes the building.

This site has historical and social-cultural value as a retail and business building, and particularly as a grocery store. The building was constructed in 1922 for Vina Eby's "Ladywear" shop. After Mrs. Eby retired in 1934, the building became Goodacre's Grocery store from 1937-1960. The Goodacre's store is remembered by Witsuwit'en community members and new immigrants to the community as a welcoming business. Additional historical value derives from its connections to the Goodacre family, including former Smithers town councillor and MLA for Bulkley Valley-Stikine, Bill Goodacre.
